Building or maintaining the lending platform, the interest calculation engine, the credit decisioning model or the loan servicing system is contributing directly to the mechanics of a riba contract, and most scholars treat that as falling within the prohibition on recording and facilitating interest. Working on general infrastructure - networks, internal tooling, HR systems, information security, the mobile app's payments and balance-viewing features - is generic technical labour that many contemporary scholars permit. Engineers frequently assume technical abstraction creates religious distance; it usually does not, because code operates at greater scale than any individual clerk.

Generally the opposite. The narration extends the prohibition to the person who records the interest transaction - a scribe who is not a party to it. An engineer who writes the system that records those transactions automatically has built the scribe rather than replaced the concern. Scale is an aggravating factor rather than a mitigating one, because the code performs the same function continuously and at volume.
This is the genuinely difficult middle case. A useful test is whether the system would still be needed if the bank stopped interest-based lending entirely. Authentication, security, payments and regulatory reporting would all survive that change; a loan origination service would not. Where a shared platform serves both, scholars who permit general technical work would generally permit maintaining the platform while advising you to avoid building lending-specific features on top of it.
